Allianz NHL Division 3A Preview

By Paul Shaughnessy

This weekend sees the opening round of the National Hurling in Division 3A with Tyrone taking on Monaghan and Armagh facing Longford. While Sligo have received a bye this weekend as it is a five team group. Tyrone and Sligo look like they will battle it out this weekend for promotion but Armagh, Longford and Monaghan will be looking to have their say this weekend.

Armagh vs Longford

Day: Sunday 16th May

Time: 13:00pm

Venue: Athletic Grounds

Armagh and Longford will both be looking to hit the ground running this weekend after both sides got knocked out at the round two stage of the Nicky Rackard Cup in 2020. Armagh will take huge belief from reaching the Division 3A league final in 2020. The Gaffney brothers have opted out of the Orchard county's panel this year which will be a significant blow but with the quality of Danny Magee and Simon Doherty Armagh should have too much for Longford in this encounter.

Tyrone vs Monaghan

Day: Sunday 16th May

Time: 14:00pm

Venue: Healy Park, Omagh

The Tyrone senior hurlers have gained plenty of attraction this year with the appointment of Slaughtneil senior hurling boss Michael McShane. The Antrim man should bring a huge level of pedigree and consistency towards Tyrone. Once again Damien Casey will be to the forefront for the home side. Monaghan just avoided relegation in 2020 and The Farney's main aim will be securing their status in Division 3A. Tyrone should have too much quality in this tie.
