National Football League Division Three South Preview- Round One
By Eoin Horkan
This weekend sees the opening round of the Division 3 National Football League south.
For those that don’t know the GAA have divided the national leagues into regional groups to limit the travel distance for teams in the current climate
Limerick Vs Tipperary
Day: Saturday 15th May
Venue: Gaelic Grounds
Tv Channel: GAA Go
The last time these two sides locked horns was in the Munster championship last year. Tipp overcame Limerick by a point in extra time and eventually won the Munster championship in a historic season for the Premier County.
The Treaty county will be sweating on the fitness of this year’s joint captain Iain Corbett who is suffering from a foot injury and may not be risked for this opening round clash.
Tipp attack and squad has received a major boost for the season, with ex Dublin county footballer Philp Ryan joining their ranks. With a potential full forward line off Ryan, captain Conor Sweeney and Michael Quinlivan. It’s hard to see anything but an opening round win for the Premier County.
Wicklow vs Offaly
Day: Sunday 16th May
Tv Channel: GAA Go
Offaly travel to Aughrim on Sunday in the opening round of the division 3 South national football league.
The home side will be hoping to carry on there form from last year after been promoted from division 4.
In comparison Offaly will be hoping to keep there division 3 status for another year under the stewardship of the ageless John Maughan.
Davy Burkes men will be looking to the youth of Andy Maher and Conor Beirne who broke into the senior squad in last years league. Burke will be hopeful that the young talent from the last few years will be able to slot into the side and replace the likes of Darren Hayden who has retired from the intercounty scene.
Offaly are without Niall McNamee and Cian Johnson for this game and in the end this could a huge different.
