Leinster SFC Quarter-Final Kildare vs Offaly

By Darragh Walsh

Kildare VS Offaly

When: Sunday 4th July @ 4:30pm

Where: Newbridge

Watch it on: GAA Go

Sunday sees Kildare host Offaly in the quarter final of this year’s Leinster Senior Football Championship. Both teams are entering the contest in good form, coming off the back of successful league campaigns where both teams gained promotion from their respective divisions. Kildare emerged victorious in this fixture at the same stage of the competition last year, will this year’s tie be the same story?

Kildare enter the contest as heavy favourites following their very successful year that saw the Lilywhites gain promotion back to division 1. After topping the south group of Division 2, Kildare faced Meath in the Division 2 Semifinal. Kildare emerged victorious on the day with a goal between the sides ending a very successful league campaign for Jack O’Connor’s side. The return of talisman Daniel Flynn will be a major bonus on Sunday as the talented forward will look to make his return after a couple of hamstring injuries this year.

Offaly also enter the contest with their tails up following an extremely successful year. Promotion to division 3 along with a3 goal championship win last weekend against Louth demonstrates progress in the Faithful county. With John Maughan overseeing this development, Offaly football has a bright future ahead of them. Going into this weekend however, Offaly will have their work cut out for them to progress in the Leinster championship. Not only do they face a strong Kildare side, but this will be Offaly’s fifth week in a row playing but the trademark fitness and conditioning that Maughan instills in all his teams is bound to show on Sunday evening.

Verdict: Kildare
