Allianz NHL Division 3A- Round Two Preview

By Cian Dalton

Paul Shaughnessy’s predictions were on point last week as Armagh and Tyrone ran out convincing winners in their ties against Longford and Monaghan respectively. Monaghan get a break this week as Sligo look to get their league campaign off to a winning start against the Orchard county. This looks like it could be a tight division with Armagh, Tyrone and Sligo all aiming for a spot in the final and promotion.

Longford vs Tyrone Day: Saturday 22nd May. Time: 14:00. Venue: Pearse Park.

Longford will be hoping to steady the ship and put some points on the league table at home this Saturday. That will be no mean feat as they welcome a Tyrone side buoyed by their impressive victory over Monaghan last weekend. Tyrone captain Damian Casey scored a massive 1-16 out of his side’s 1-25. If he and his Tyrone team can put in a similar performance in Pearse Park then I see no hope for Longford. Michael McShane's side have been boosted by former Antrim dual star CJ McGourty lining out for Tyrone this year.

This weekend's hurling action is brought to you by Star Hurley. Star Hurley are operating from Jenkinstown, Co. Kilkenny. Star Hurley produce hand made hurls made to the wishes of each individual. They can be contacted by phone (0834347775), or on social media via Facebook or Instagram

Sligo vs Armagh Day: Saturday 22nd May. Time: 14:00. Venue: Markievicz Park

Sligo will be hoping to push on from a successful 2020 season. The NHL Division 3B winners were brilliant last year, despite a managerial change-up mid season. Padraig Mannion’s charges will have a tough first day out against an Armagh side firing on all cylinders, however. There’s goals in Padraig O’Connor’s team and Fionntan Donnelly scored 11 points last weekend, deservedly landing himself on the GAA.ie team of the week. There will be nothing between the sides in this encounter. Armagh have the extra game time in their favour after Sligo received a bye in the opening round and this could be the difference in the end.

Sligo vs Armagh is available to view on a Sligo GAA stream. Check out their Twitter page for more details.
